What is Nine Men's Morris?

Nine Men's Morris is an abstract strategy game whose origins trace back to the Roman Empire and Ancient Egypt. While the rules are remarkably easy to pick up, mastering the game requires deep tactical foresight and intense logical planning, similar to standard chess or checkers. Our digital iteration is powered by an extremely robust Minimax algorithm with Alpha-Beta pruning, providing a competitive, intelligent AI capable of challenging even the most experienced players across 3 distinct difficulty levels.

The Main Phases of the Game:

• Placing Phase: Both players start the game with nine pieces (or "men"). Players take alternating turns placing a single piece on any vacant intersection point on the board. If a player successfully forms a horizontal or vertical line of three pieces (a "mill"), they get to instantly remove an opponent's piece from the board, provided that piece is not currently part of another mill itself.
• Moving Phase: Once all 18 pieces have been played and placed, the mechanics shift. Now, players maneuver their pieces to an adjacent empty point along the drawn lines, trying to continuously build, break, and rebuild mills.
• Flying Phase: When an unfortunate player gets reduced to exactly three pieces, they unlock the ability to "fly". Their pieces can now jump to ANY vacant spot on the board, ignoring the adjacent lines. To achieve victory, you must dwindle the AI down to just two pieces or completely block all of their moving options!
